AFACT is a trade organization representing Texas property and
casualty insurance groups and other insurers with significant business
interests in the state.
AFACT was founded in 1941 to broaden consumer knowledge of insurance and support legislation to improve the insurance business.
AFACT typically follows some 300 bills during each Texas Legislative
session. Its Legislative Committee meets each week during the session
to discuss bills of interest to its member companies and to give
direction to its lobbyists.
During the 2011 legislative session, AFACT's lobbyists were instrumental
in communicating with both Senate and House members on TWIA legislation,
changes to workers' compensation laws and the TDI's sunset legislation.
AFACT will always play an important role in the legislative and
regulatory processes as it works with Texas elected and appointed
officials to shape the state’s insurance marketplace.
After lawmakers return home, AFACT monitors interim committee
activities and participates in the regulatory process of the Texas
Department of Insurance and its Division of Workers’
Compensation.
